Instead, on Sept. 8, the opening night of Festa do Brasil, Brazil had come to Lebanon.
Running until Sept. 23 at La Martingale Terrace of Casino du Liban, the Brazilian Festival is the most comprehensive Brazilian cultural project to date in Lebanon.
Each night during the festival, the dance group Elegancia Brasil – its six dancers having flown in especially from Paris – will put on a show, while the Xango band will perform bossa nova and Brazilian chef of Lebanese descent Felipe Rameh will serve authentic Brazilian gastronomy.
The festival, Oliveira said, "strengthens the cultural ties between the two countries and deepens the mutual understanding and empathy that already exists between the Brazilian and the Lebanese people".
There are, he said, around 8 million people of Lebanese descent in Brazil and 15,000 Brazilian citizens, both expatriates and dual-nationality holders, living in Lebanon – most of them in the Bekaa Valley.
Ingredients, perhaps, like the 700 kilograms of food sent from Brazil for the festival.
